Our Story

A vision of grace — for every background.

Christ's Church of Laurel has always been a multiethnic community that loves people from every background. We reach for the people nobody wants, and Christ turns them into the people everyone needs.

Out of that vision, Dying to Live was founded eighteen years ago. From the beginning, it has continuously provided 12-Step recovery meetings and biblical counseling to men and women seeking freedom from addiction and a new life in Christ.

As the ministry grew, so did the need for a place to live it out. The Zac House for women was opened, and later the Waltman House of Hope, to provide primary care six-month recovery programs. Both operated successfully for many years, walking countless individuals into stable, faith-rooted sobriety.

In 2023, remodeling began on both houses. Today, they operate as part of the Dying to Live Recovery & Discipleship Ministry — a Christ-centered program serving men and women in separate residential houses, with continuing meetings, counseling, discipleship, and a community of accountability rooted in Christ's Church of Laurel.

2008

Dying to Live is founded within Christ's Church of Laurel. 12-Step meetings and counseling begin.

The Zac House

A primary care six-month residential recovery program for women is opened.

Waltman House

The Waltman House of Hope opens to serve men in the same six-month residential model.

Remodeling begins. Both houses continue today as the Dying to Live Recovery & Discipleship Ministry.

Residential accommodation is provided when available as part of active ministry participation — not as a stand-alone rental. Everything we offer is designed to support recovery, discipleship, and a life of purpose.

Dying to Live is a good fit for men and women coming out of a primary recovery program with 24-hour supervision, and for those referred by treatment providers, courts, families, or churches. Applicants start with the online form — anyone else is welcome to call for general information.
